Bugatti has unveiled its most ambitious bespoke project to date – the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport ‘Golden Era’. The culmination of two years of bespoke artistry, this new creation blurs the line between automotive engineering and pure artistic expression.
A testament to Bugatti’s Sur Mesure offering, which caters to customers’ extraordinary visions that extend beyond the boundaries of standard customisation, the ‘Golden Era’ exemplifies the collaboration between passionate enthusiasts and the brand’s design team.
Conceived from the imagination of a devoted Bugatti collector, who is deeply enamoured with the marque’s rich history and the intricate engineering of the W16 engine, the ‘Golden Era’ pays homage to the pivotal moments that shaped Bugatti’s legacy.
Celebrating the iconic Chiron Super Sport and its extraordinary powertrain design, this bespoke masterpiece is a living canvas adorned with 45 meticulously hand-drawn sketches that narrate Bugatti’s journey through its most remarkable creations over the years.
Achim Anscheidt, former Bugatti design director behind the one-off, recounts the genesis of this remarkable creation: “This endeavour stands as one of the most challenging and rewarding undertakings in our history. Our customer shared his belief that the Chiron Super Sport and its W16 engine represent a transformative moment in automotive history. We delved into Bugatti’s storied past, tracing landmarks from the eras of Ettore Bugatti, Jean Bugatti and Roland Bugatti, which marked the brand’s first so-called ‘Golden Era’. The outcome, aptly named ‘Golden Era’, captures the essence of Bugatti’s uniqueness, immortalising it in a breathtaking work of art.”
The journey to manifest this vision proved an arduous one, as the Bugatti design team meticulously translated each sketch onto the car’s surface with precision. The passenger side of the ‘Golden Era’ showcases 26 hand-drawn sketches, celebrating icons like the opulent Type 41 Royale and the exquisite Type 57 SC Atlantic, both representing monumental leaps in automotive innovation. Meanwhile, the driver’s side features 19 sketches that chronicle Bugatti’s resurgence since 1987, from the iconic EB110 to the revolutionary Veyron and Chiron.
Capturing the complexity of Bugatti’s W16 engine – the heart of the masterpiece – required an exquisite balance of skill and patience. Each of the 3 712 components that constitute this marvel of engineering is intricately portrayed, adding a fascinating layer to the artwork.
Not content with merely adorning the exterior, the design team extended their artistry into the interior. Embellishing the door panels are three Bugatti icons, meticulously hand-painted onto the leather. The exquisite details culminate in a beautifully appointed interior with bespoke ‘Golden Era’ stitching and hand-written ‘One-of-One’ motifs.
