Sands of time – desert-inspired elegance from Rado

In the world of horology, where craftsmanship meets artistry, a new timepiece emerges that captures the tranquil beauty of desert landscapes

By Debbie Hathway

The new Rado Centrix embodies desert-inspired elegance in the timekeeping realm with hues reminiscent of golden sands and warm earth tones. Shades of gold, ochre and brown set the style for the evolution of the line, featuring two size options, design enhancements and state-of-the-art movements in the automatic and quartz versions.

Gently rounded contours mimic the undulating curves of the desert and its dunes, with high-tech ceramic contributing to the sensuous feel. Light, cool and smooth, ceramic has the advantage of being more scratch resistant than stainless steel.

The new Rado Centrix models are available in two sizes, 30.5mm and 39.5mm. These have an uncluttered dial, protected by a slightly spherical, rounded-edge sapphire crystal that is bonded flush with the case. An anti-reflective coating facilitates a clear view of the dial, highlighting the radial, sunray texture, indices, the Rado logo slightly more significant than previous models and the “Jubilé” inscription for models with precious stones for indices.

The lugs and bracelet have been adapted to suit the rounded case contours, flowing into a redesigned case back. A sapphire crystal reveals the NivachronTM-hairspring movement and its self-winder mass on all automatic models. The power reserve is 48 hours and 80 hours, relative to the model size.

The quartz versions feature computer-chip technology that automatically detects and responds to sudden movement or shock and makes the necessary corrections to keep accurate time. These units are also unaffected by changes in temperature or moisture.
