Celebrating its 13th edition, Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2026 marks a significant new chapter for Africa’s largest international art fair. Centred on the radical, active theme Listen, the fair positions itself as a global platform for reflection and connection through art.
“In a world saturated with noise, listening is an increasingly radical act – an active, ethical gesture,” state the fair’s organisers. This ethos shapes the 2026 edition, which broadens its physical footprint and its programming to foster deeper engagement between artists, curators and audiences.
An extraordinary global chorus of 126 exhibitors from 34 cities and 22 countries will present work by 490 artists. This includes 42 first-time exhibitors from cities such as Douala, Stockholm and The Hague, reflecting growing international engagement with African and diasporic perspectives.
The theme Listen is articulated through four curated sections, each led by an acclaimed curator:
• Tomorrows/Today, curated by Dr Mariella Franzoni, draws inspiration from Ben Okri to explore liminal spaces.
• SOLO: curated by Céline Seror, presents artists for whom listening is a relational practice.
• Generations: curated by Tandazani Dhlakama, highlights intergenerational dialogues.
• Cabinet/Record, curated by Beata America, reimagines photography as a way to listen to visual narratives.
These sections complement the fair’s core sections: Main, Lookout, Editions, Connect, and the expanded retail-focused section, Capsule.
“Our curators have built a genuinely global representation,” says Fair Director Laura Vincenti. “The fair is a convergence of voices – a space where audiences are encouraged not only to see, but to listen.”
A major evolution for 2026 is the integration of discourse at the heart of the fair experience. A new, purpose-built on-site auditorium will host the talks programme, while interactive workshops invite more direct engagement. This physical growth enables richer conversations and fosters new encounters.
The fair also unveils its largest awards selection yet, introducing two new international prizes to support artistic innovation.
“We’re expanding in scope,” Laura concludes. “More than a theme, Listen is a mode of engagement – with art, with one another, and with our world.” With this edition, Investec Cape Town Art Fair further cements its role as an essential global nexus where the art world gathers to hear what comes next.
