Luxury watchmakers love Valentine’s Day. From Omega and Blancpain, to Chopard and Harry Winston, several premium brands have marked the day with special edition timepieces over the years. Breguet, one of the world’s oldest surviving and among the most prestigious watch brands, has regularly come up with Valentine’s Day special edition watches. In 2022, Breguet came out with the Reine de Naples 8905 – named after Caroline Murat, the Queen of Naples for whom Abraham-Louis Breguet is said to have created the first wristwatch in 1812. For 2023, the Swiss watchmaker has decided to celebrate love with the Classique Phase de Lune 9085 Valentine’s Day Edition.
The pièce de resistance though is the hand-hammered gold moon phase that is placed at 6 o’clock, enveloped by a midnight blue lacquered sky strewn with gold stars. Rounding off the elegant looks of the watch face is the traditional Breguet inscription within an oval cartouche at 12 o’clock.
Powering the special timepiece is the Calibre 537L automatic movement with a 45-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire caseback are decorations such as Côtes de Genève motifs adorning the different parts of the rhodium-plated movement, as well as the gold rotor, hand-engraved with a circular barleycorn pattern.
The Classique Phase de Lune 9085 comes with an alligator leather strap in ruby red, with an additional strap in pearly white alligator leather also supplied as part of the Valentine’s Day boxed set. Breguet’s quick interchangeable strap system allows the wearer a tool-free switch between these two straps. The Breguet Classique Phase de Lune 9085 is priced at CHF33,800.
