La D My Dior: A Ribbon That Tells Time

The reimagined collection draws on the House of Dior’s haute couture heritage.

Dior presents its iconic La D My Dior collection with a contemporary twist, using heritage to underpin its take on a modern, sophisticated time-telling design.

Introduced in 2003 by Victoire de Castellane, after she was appointed artistic director of the Maison Christian Dior in 1998, the La D My Dior watch is synonymous with elegance. Over the years, it has evolved from bold, multi-coloured gemstones to minimalist monochromatic styles, maintaining its place as a stylish time-only statement piece. Its minimalist dial canvas allows only for two hands.

At the heart of the collection lies the cannage pattern – a signature motif inspired by the woven cane pattern used for the Napoleon III chairs set out in the Dior salon in Paris in 1947. This geometric design, famously associated with the Lady Dior handbag beloved by Princess Diana, is woven into the La D My Dior watch, extending from the dial to the bracelet in a striking display of craftsmanship.

Dubbed “the ribbon that tells time”, each watch in the La D My Dior collection is powered by a precision quartz movement. In an interview with The Times, Castellane described the piece as a “classic watch that dresses up in different outfits,” constantly evolving, never standing still. This edition retains the ribbon-like strap, requiring two days of specialist engraving to achieve the etching of the symbolic pattern.

Elegant and versatile, the reimagined 2024 La D My Dior collection offers a perfect blend of heritage and modernity, embodying Dior’s dedication to timeless design.
