Cool in the Cape: February Issue Out Now

Alongside South Africa being named the best country to travel to, Cape Town was honoured as the Greatest City on Earth in the 2023 Telegraph Travel Awards.

By Ntokozo Maseko

For the eighth year in a row, the largest city in the Western Cape got the nod for its combination of attractions, which include 1. 6km of alluring coastline and the assuring presence of Table Mountain – one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Cape Town has emerged as a cosmopolitan coastal city with a variety of experiences to offer while the wider Cape region, with its winelands and charming coastal communities, is as spectacular a tourism magnet as the city.

As always, this month promises to be spent making memories on the biodiverse beaches where days that lead  into night, peppered with award-winning wining and dining or at one of the many culture events on the city’s dynamic calendar. We’ve dedicated this issue to what we anticipate to be an unforgettable summer- season finale in the region – from our station as media partners at the 11th Investec Cape Town Art Fair we’ve extended eyes, ears and the rest of the senses to bring you the best of the Cape, and it’s hard to ignore the call for one last revel on the coast.

On The Cover

Our cover features the Iron Man Villa which is located in the affluent neighbourhood of Clifton on Nettleton Ridge, one of the most exclusive residential areas in the world. The Villa, designed by Peerutin Karol, takes its cues from mid-century modern architecture and gets is moniker from its resemblance to Tony Stark’s Malibu mansion as featured in the Marvel Iron Man movies.

Spread across four levels, accessible via two elevators or a majestic spiral staircase, this residence is an entertainer’s paradise. The home boasts lavish entertainment areas, including an extensive home spa featuring an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and Jacuzzi. A state-of-the-art home theatre and a digital-games setup offer endless entertainment options. The relaxation pavilion, reminiscent of a scene from a James Bond film, features a sunken bar and barbecue areas, complemented by a rim-flow swimming pool. The expansive open-plan living area, with its long dining table and sleek kitchen-cum-bar, flows effortlessly onto a verdant lawn, an outdoor barbecue area, and the pavilion, all while offering unobstructed views of the ocean.

The luxurious bedroom suites on the top floor provide a private haven of comfort and elegance, each framing panoramic ocean vistas. For guests desiring additional privacy, two separate bedroom pods located above the entertainment pavilion offer an exclusive retreat.
