Phantom Centenary: Rolls-Royce Launches Limited 25-Car Collection

Marking the centenary of the world’s most revered luxury car, the Goodwood marque unveils a limited-edition Phantom that turns engineering into art and history into motion.

A century ago, the world was introduced to an icon — the Rolls-Royce Phantom. It was more than a car, it was a statement of grace, craftsmanship, and quiet power.

Today, that legacy glimmers anew in the Phantom Centenary Private Collection, a breathtaking celebration of 100 years of engineering perfection and artistic mastery. Limited to just 25 examples, this collection is not merely a car but a chronicle of the world’s most revered luxury nameplate.

Design in Light and Gold

At first glance, the Phantom Centenary appears to be sculpted from light itself. Its two-tone exterior — Super Champagne Crystal over Arctic White — shimmers with crushed-glass particles, a visual symphony of metallic elegance. It evokes the golden age of cinema, when Phantoms carried the world’s most influential figures to red carpets and royal events.

Crowning the bonnet is a Spirit of Ecstasy unlike any before, cast in solid 18kt gold, plated in 24kt brilliance, and hallmarked “Phantom Centenary.” Even the ‘RR’ badges gleam in gold and white enamel — a subtle reminder that every detail is deliberate, divine, and enduring.

“The Rolls-Royce Phantom Centenary Private Collection is our tribute to 100 years of the world’s most revered luxury item. This uncompromising work of art uses the meticulously engineered Phantom VIII as the canvas to tell the story of Phantom’s remarkable life and the people who shaped it — from the visionaries within Rolls-Royce to the owners who helped create its legend,” said Chris Brownridge, Chief Executive, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

“For a century, the Phantom nameplate has expressed the pinnacle of Rolls-Royce’s abilities. To honour that legacy, this extraordinarily ambitious Private Collection introduces new techniques and is the result of over 40 000 hours of work, culminating in a motor car which reaffirms Phantom’s status as a symbol of ambition, artistic possibility, and historical gravitas.”

A Century of Craft, Stitched in Time

Step inside, and the story deepens. The cabin of the Phantom Centenary is an anthology of 100 years of ambition and artistry. The interior tells its tale not through words but through stitches, threads, and textures — over 160 000 of them.

The rear seats are inspired by the 1926 Phantom of Love, their printed and embroidered fabric crafted in collaboration with a haute couture atelier. Here, Rolls-Royce quite literally “sketches with thread,” transforming the backrest into a contemporary tapestry of history — from the marque’s London origins to the South of France retreats of Sir Henry Royce himself.

Up front, the leather seats bear laser-etched linework that nods to the draughtsmen who designed each generation of Phantom. Motifs like the “Roger Rabbit” (codename for Rolls-Royce’s 2003 revival) whisper of milestones that shaped the brand’s soul.

Stories in Every Surface

Then there’s the Anthology Gallery, a sculptural masterpiece of 50 aluminium fins that shimmer like the pages of a book, each engraved with words of praise gathered from a century of acclaim. Light dances across its surface like starlight, reminding every occupant that this is not just a cabin — it’s a museum in motion.

The craftsmanship continues in the doors, where woodwork tells Phantom’s global story through marquetry, laser etching, gold leaf, and 3D ink layering. Wherever the Phantom may travel, each route is rendered in 24kt gold — a journey in brilliance.

Above, the Starlight Headliner glows with 440 000 stitches — a celestial tribute to the innovators who made the Phantom a legend. Among its constellations, hidden bees, birds, and mulberry leaves recall the quiet moments of inspiration that have shaped Rolls-Royce’s artistry at Goodwood.

A Legacy Redefined

The Phantom Centenary Private Collection is more than a commemoration — it’s a manifesto of mastery. Every inch, every shimmer, every golden line tells a century’s worth of stories about excellence, endurance, and imagination. For those privileged to own one of the 25 masterpieces, the reward is not only exclusivity but immortality.

Because 100 years on, the Phantom remains what it has always been: not merely driven, but lived.
