Choosing pink, the colour of Miami, for the strap of IWC Schaffhausen’s new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ to be launched at this weekend’s Maimi Grand Prix is inspired to say the least. This vibrant hue is a mixture of red and white, colours known to describe things high in energy, such as sports or music.
Timed and designed to celebrate the second Miami Grand Prix™ on race weekend at the Miami International Autodrome from 3-5 May 2023, the pink featured in the rubber strap – and team appearance – captures Miami’s sun-kissed lifestyle and Ocean Drive colours.
This is IWC’s first official team watch for Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team and a celebration of 10 years as its official engineering partner this year. The chronograph is a tribute to the unwavering commitment and dedication of the team’s designers, aerodynamicists, race engineers, strategists, and mechanics. It is designed to embody the team’s passion and determination.
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will sport eye-catching pink details on gloves and shoes, while team members at the event will also wear the chronograph on the pink strap, enhancing the overall aesthetic of their outfits.
The watch is crafted from a motorsport-inspired material, extremely rigid grade 5 titanium that IWC pioneered during the 1980s with the introduction of the first wristwatch with a titanium case and bracelet. Featuring a black dial with printing and luminescence in PETRONAS green, it has a sleek design and is approximately 45% lighter than steel. The material is both resistant to corrosion and gentle on the skin.
The IWC-manufactured 69385 calibre movement powers the chronograph, visible through the sapphire glass back. It has a power reserve of 46 hours.
This limited-edition timepiece with the Miami Pink rubber strap (Ref. IW388114) is bundled with a green strap and can be purchased exclusively on IWC.com and in the Miami boutique.
