The Tudor Black Bay 54 “Lagoon Blue” is an instant mood-shifter. The moment the sun hits that serene blue dial, you’ll picture shimmering pools, open-ocean horizons, and long, languid weekends spent drifting between yacht decks and shaded terraces.
It is a watch that makes time feel softer, slower, and decidedly more indulgent.
Despite its lineage tracing back to the 1954 Oyster Prince Submariner reference 7922, the Black Bay 54’s impact today is thoroughly modern. The proportional refinements, small-crown silhouette, and sand-textured dial give it an effortless, timeless cool.
And while it is heavier and broader than I typically wear, the adaptation period was short-lived. The fully satin-brushed five-link steel bracelet, equipped with the T-fit rapid adjustment, proved exceptionally comfortable. Even on cooler days, when the skin contracts and bracelets tend to slide distractingly, this one remained unobtrusive. The clasp, with its ceramic ball bearings, lends a pleasingly tactile ease to fastening and, more importantly, unfastening once on the wrist.
Functionally, it performs with the quiet confidence expected of the Manufacture Calibre MT5400. The “weekend-proof” 70-hour power reserve is a defining promise — though in my case, the watch stopped after more than 10 unwound days following collection, which is outside the intended timeframe.
Resetting, however, is intuitive. The crown is easy to manipulate, and manual winding is straightforward: unscrew, wind clockwise 30–40 turns, set if needed, then screw down for full water resistance.
Where this model truly excels is in visibility. The Super-LumiNova is outstanding — bright even under trees, when driving under bridges, or when shadows fall across the dial in daylight.
