On the journey to Paris 2024, Omega arrived in Shanghai to serve as the Official Timekeeper for the inaugural Olympic Qualifier Series in May. This festival-style event takes place in two parts, the next one being in Budapest from June 20-23.
The focus is on the newest and most youthful events in the Olympic Games lineup, including sport climbing, skateboarding, BMX freestyle, and breaking, which debut in Paris.
Omega will provide official results for each event, along with live timing and scoring. The brand will also handle comprehensive data services for live broadcasters, using specialised technology such as touchpads in speed climbing, which allow athletes to stop the clock with their hands.
Reflecting the youthful appeal of these sports, the Olympic Qualifier Series will blend competition with culture, music, fashion, and art. Fans and athletes alike will enjoy a vibrant and immersive experience.
Omega is committed to ensuring precision, excellence, and reliability throughout the event and looks forward to contributing to this dynamic and historic stage.
In other news, Omega has introduced the Laboratoire de Précision, a new facility for chronometric testing. Traditionally, Swiss mechanical movements were tested by COSC (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) for the “certified chronometer” title. Now, Omega’s new laboratory, accredited by the Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS), will offer an independent and alternative testing service. The Laboratoire de Précision operates from two sites in Switzerland, in Bienne and Villeret, spanning over 1 000 square metres dedicated to chronometric testing. This facility underscores Omega’s commitment to advancing the quality and reliability of its world-renowned calibres.
