Breitling Reimagines the Superocean Heritage

Swiss brand’s iconic sea watch resurfaces with a new movement, refined proportions, and a limited-edition tribute to the world’s most legendary surfer.

Breitling’s Superocean Heritage returns with a purposeful redesign that sharpens its identity without losing the essence that made it a standout when it first debuted in 1957. This is not just an update; it’s a thoughtful evolution of the brand’s most streamlined sea watch – still elegant, still functional, and now technically more advanced.

The new collection includes automatic models in 36mm to 44mm, each powered by a movement tailored to its proportions. Notably, it marks the debut of the B31 calibre – Breitling’s first in-house three-hand automatic movement. For those drawn to the chronograph format, the 44mm, 42mm and 40mm version houses the brand’s flagship Caliber 01. The Caliber 10 automatic movement powers the 36mm. These timepieces are united by considered design updates: cleaner lines, improved symmetry, and reduced thickness for greater comfort.

A simplified palette – black, blue, and green – anchors the collection, complemented by ceramic-inlaid bezels for durability and scratch resistance. Matching mesh bracelets in rubber or metal complete the watches with a tailored fit and refined closure system. There are no gimmicks here – just focused adjustments that enhance legibility and wearability. The hallmark spear-and-arrow hands and pointed indexes remain, a clear nod to the original’s utility and style.

This release also spotlights Hawaii in spirit and in substance. The launch campaign leans into surf culture and the laidback confidence it inspires, amplified by a collaboration with Kelly Slater. The 11-time world champion has long been part of Breitling’s surf team. Now, his influence is made tangible in the Superocean Heritage B31 Automatic 40 Kelly Slater edition.

Limited to 500 pieces, the model features a foliage-textured dial that references Hawaii’s natural canopy, a visible caseback, and Slater’s signature embedded in the box design. Buyers receive a personal note from the surfer, grounding the watch in a life shaped by the ocean.

“Breitling has been with me for years,” he says. “This watch reflects everything I love – the ocean, nature, and the easy-going style I’ve always connected with.”

A steel mesh bracelet or blue rubber strap completes the piece, made for those who favour understatement with meaning.

This is a collection made not just for divers, but for individuals who move easily between land and sea, tradition and today.
