Polo South Africa Celebrates Local Merino Wool

Inspired by the Karoo and crafted from locally sourced Merino wool, the collection focuses on timeless essentials with a lighter environmental footprint.

Polo South Africa’s new collection is inspired by the slow, steady rhythm of the natural world. Designed by Creative Director Alia Peer as part of the Polo Purpose Initiative, the collection draws from the brand’s own archives, then reimagines everything through locally crafted, 100 per cent South African Merino wool.

It’s a true farm-to-closet story. Grown, designed, and made right here.

The knits themselves are the kind you’ll reach for again and again. Think cosy scarves paired with elevated crewnecks in understated tones. “The new colours are inspired by the Karoo,” says Alia. “We love its dramatic landscape, the deep reds, stones, and indigenous grasses.” It’s subtle, but you can feel the earth in every shade.

What makes it special, though, is the wool itself. South Africa is one of the world’s leading producers of Merino wool, known for both its exceptional quality and environmental care. Merino is biodegradable, renewable, and a cradle-to-cradle fibre. It keeps you warm without waste, breaking down naturally and returning nutrients to the soil. That’s a rarity in modern fashion.

At the heart of the collection is a sense of ease, with traceable designs, thoughtful silhouettes, and a focus on clothes worth investing in. “We sought to design the perfect essential knit,” Alia adds, “prioritising the right weight, colour, and fit.”
