The launch of The Don’s Table recently brought the spirit of the Jaliscan highlands to the outskirts of Johannesburg. Guests, dressed to the theme Blanco Chic, descended on an immersive adult playground of music, food and tequila-infused drinks in the Cradle of Mankind. “We are absolutely over the moon to introduce The Don’s Table to our beloved South African consumers. This concept is more than just a way to savour our exceptional tequila; it’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity to dive headfirst into the captivating saga of Don Julio Gonzalez, the trailblazing visionary behind our iconic brand. Through The Don’s Table, we’re not just sharing our tequila; we’re sharing our passion for exceptional devotion,” says Natalia Celani, marketing and innovation director at Diageo South Africa.
While soaking up the rich heritage of Mexico with a culinary spread from the region, guests appreciated the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into every bottle of tequila with cocktail-making sessions guided by mixing maestros. As Natalia puts it, “We firmly believe that the true essence of tequila can only be appreciated when you understand its roots, the meticulous craftsmanship, and the everevolving luxury trends. Tequila is slowly becoming a leader in the sprits category, surpassing whisky in the US and growing exponentially on our shores. The Don’s Table is our way of enlightening consumers, taking their tequila knowledge and appreciation to the next level.”Against the backdrop of sounds from soulful musician Marcus Harvey and an impressive line-up of DJs, including the seasoned DJ Kenzhero, guests took in a little liquid sunshine with signature cocktails like the Don Margarita, which became the true star of the show. This and other cocktails served on the day celebrated the new Don Julio Blanco, a fruit-forward silver tequila that is the base from which all other variants are derived. Made from the finest blue agave plant and a time-honoured distillation process, its crisp agave flavour and hints of citrus make it an essential component to a variety of drinks.
The Johannesburg edition of The Don’s Table is not the last that South Africans can anticipate.
