Seven years ago, Amanda Dambuza had a simple idea: to create a beautiful room where women could pause, be looked after, meet one another, and feel that they mattered. What began as an intimate gathering has grown into the signature expression of Vastly Sage, bringing together women from different generations, industries, and backgrounds for conversations about ambition, leadership, wealth, health, identity, relationships, and reinvention.
Now, the November Uplifting Brunch is preparing to take its final bow. But for Amanda, this edition is less about an ending than about what comes next. “After seven years of conversations about how we live, lead, build, and become, our seventh edition is about legacy: the legacy we build, the lives we touch, and the future we leave behind,” she says.
That theme runs through this year’s programme. Morongwe “Mo” Mokone asks what it means to Build Beyond You, while Nomi Bodlani of Allan Gray joins technology executive Lillian Karuri for Wealth With a Longer View. Media personality Zizo Beda explores Becoming, Again, while Kealeboga Pule, founder of Nungu Diamonds, looks Beyond the Sparkle, and Nokwanda Khumalo of bp Southern Africa and creator of Leading with Grace considers The Leadership We Leave Behind. Dr Samke J. Ngcobo explores The Courage to Live Your Whole Story.
For Amanda, the magic has always been what happens around the formal programme, too. “Over seven editions, the November Uplifting Brunch grew into a community and the most visible expression of Vastly Sage. Women from different generations, industries, and backgrounds found one another. Friendships began at those tables, as did businesses, and conversations carried on long after we had packed everything away.”
That sense of community is also part of the event’s impact. At each November gathering, Vastly Sage has adopted a non-profit organisation, giving it a platform, visibility, and a community ready to listen and help. Move Africa and the Rock Angel Project are among those to have benefited.
Amanda has also never seen luxury and impact as opposing ideas. “I have never accepted that we have to choose between impact and luxury.
You can have conversations that matter in a gorgeous room. You can love good food, champagne, travel, and beautiful things and still care deeply about what happens outside that room,” she says. It’s an ethos that has become central to the Vastly Sage experience.
The partnerships behind the brunch have helped shape its evolution. Veuve Clicquot has supported the event since its early years, while mobility partner Mercedes-Benz, beauty and skincare partner Clarins, KitchenAid Africa, and YourLuxury Africa as media partner, return for the final edition. This year’s circle expands to include Truecaller South Africa and travel partner Flight Centre, whose relationship with Vastly Sage will continue beyond November.
Amanda will also share more about the recently launched Amanda Dambuza Collection by Nungu Diamonds, inspired by Kintsugi and her belief that what we live through does not make us less – sometimes, it’s what makes us precious.
While the brunch itself may be ending, Vastly Sage is not. The community will continue through membership, intimate partner experiences, and luxury retreats. “I am proud of the rooms we created. But I will remember the women,” says Amanda. “Maybe that is legacy. Less about what carries your name, and more about what keeps going because you were there.”
For its final edition, that feels like the perfect place to begin.
