Time Takes Flight with Chopard’s L.U.C Lunar One and Flying T Twin Perpetual

Whether you’re drawn to astronomical precision or the elegance of a high complication, the choice isn’t easy. We compare these two exceptional timepieces to help you decide.

Introduced in 2005, Chopard’s L.U.C Lunar One stands out as the only perpetual calendar with an orbital moon-phase display featuring a rotating window. This unique feature, powered by the self-winding L.U.C Calibre 96.13-L, guarantees a mere one-day deviation every 122 years. The moon-phase mechanism illustrates the night sky from both hemispheres, featuring the Big Dipper and the Southern Cross. The movement integrates a micro-rotor in solid gold, maintaining a slim profile while providing a 65-hour power reserve through Chopard Twin technology.

Now presented in a 40.5mm ethical gold case with a reshaped, more slender design, it features a hand-guilloché dial in deep blue or salmon pink, a double aperture-date window at 12 o’clock, highly legible perpetual calendar indicators, and an interchangeable strap system for versatile wear. Meanwhile, the L.U.C Flying T Twin Perpetual introduces the L.U.C Calibre 96.36-L, combining a flying tourbillon with a perpetual calendar and large date display. Thanks to its micro-rotor and Chopard Twin technology’s two stacked barrels, this ultra-thin 6 mm movement balances lightness with high performance. Due to the Gregorian calendar rules, the perpetual calendar accounts for variable month lengths and leap years, requiring only a single correction on March 1, 2100. The instantaneous display ensures seamless readability of all indications.

Distinguished by the absence of an upper bridge, the flying tourbillon provides an unobstructed view while enhancing precision. A stop-second function allows for an exact time setting. This high-complication movement, continuing Chopard’s tradition of innovation, has earned chronometer certification while the superb finishing is accentuated with Poinçon de Genève approval.

Encased in ethical 18kt yellow gold with a refined bassiné profile, it measures 40.5mm in diameter. The hand-guilloché Forest Green dial enhances legibility, while the interchangeable strap system allows for customisation.
