Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you would have noticed that colourful watch dials are one of the hottest trends in the watch industry today. An increasing number of watchmakers are experimenting with bold and vibrant hues that will help add a pop of colour to the wearer’s wrist and make a statement. Rolex has done it with its Oyster Perpetual line, and Omega followed suit with its Aqua Terra range. Now TAG Heuer has jumped on the bandwagon by releasing an updated version of its iconic Carrera Date watch with a colourful twist.

While the new Carrera Date retains its ageless appeal with its overall design and the 36mm case size, what is most striking is the array of colourful new dial options. The watch is available in intense blue, pastel green, warm silver, and vibrant pink dial colours. While the first three come with a sunray-brushed finish, the pink-dial watch gets a snailed finish. The blue, green and silver dial versions are already available, and the bright pink dial variant will be available starting in May.

The dials also have a speedometer-like track along the flange, detailed with quarter-of-a-second markings that symbolise acceleration in a nod to the model’s racing-inspired origins. The blue, green and silver dial watches get 18K rose-gold-plated applied logo and indexes as well as hour and minute hands, whereas, in the pink dial watch these elements are plated with Rhodium.

The 36mm stainless-steel case has been updated for ideal wearability, and the upgraded Calibre 7 movement delivers an impressive 56-hour power reserve. The Carrera Date’s classic folding clasp steel bracelet has been redesigned to taper more gently into the case, while the crown has been reworked to sit squarer to the case edge. TAG Heuer has made further refinements to the watch’s proportions, cutting the lug-to-lug measurement from 43.55mm to 41.6mm and making the case 2mm thinner than the previous version.

Overall, with the addition of a palette of vibrant colours, TAG Heuer has re-established the Carrera Date as a modern-day classic, while tastefully incorporating a contemporary trend into its timeless design.
