M.A.D.1S ‘Grow Your Dreams’: Designing Time, Colourfully

British-Nigerian artist Yinka Ilori infuses M.A.D.Editions’ mechanical ingenuity with his signature storytelling in a limited three-piece collaboration with MB&F.

“Yinka Ilori lives in a universe bursting with colour; his work makes you feel alive, like a rush of adrenaline pushing you to go further. This collaboration has created something that brings joy — a reminder to realise your own dreams,” says Maximilian Büsser, MB&F owner and creative director.

For Yinka, the world is a canvas for optimism. Known for transforming London’s greyer corners, among others, he infuses colour and joy into every project, from large-scale installations and architecture to playful homewares and bespoke McLarens. His recurring tree motif symbolises growth, patience, and the nurturing of ideas — an ethos instilled by his parents and at the heart of this new collaboration.

The partnership itself was serendipitous. During a 2023 holiday, Max discovered Yinka’s work in a magazine and was instantly compelled to reach out. Within a week, Yinka was in Geneva, exploring the M.A.D.Editions universe. Together, they began shaping a horological dreamscape.

Launched in 2021 as a “thank you” to the MB&F community — M.A.D.Editions is celebrated for playful yet technically advanced mechanics at an accessible level. The M.A.D.1S, introduced in 2024, evolved into a slimmer case and Swiss-made calibre, making it the perfect canvas for Yinka’s debut watch collaboration.

The ‘Grow Your Dreams’ series comprises three limited editions of 400 each: Sun, Nature, and Water. Each draws on Yinka’s guiding philosophy, expressed through bold colour and design. The titanium rotor, milled with tree motifs and anodised in yellow, green, or blue, symbolises growth and hope. Super-LumiNova illuminates Yinka’s etched motto, while numerals carry his distinctive design.

Vibrant mismatched straps — yellow and green for Sun, purple and red for Nature, dark and light blue for Water — echo Yinka’s dreamscape, each accompanied by a second white strap for versatility.

“I’ve always been obsessed with trees. Harvesting and growing them requires investing time in it. It’s pouring love into something you care about, and that starts a conversation. It’s the same for this process, and the way of thinking behind it with Max. You have to be patient and ‘harvest’ a watch. There are similarities between our universes. Typically, mine are very public, but there’s something both private and public about a watch. Everyone sees it, but it’s you who has that connection with it,” says Yinka.

As with previous M.A.D.Editions, a portion of the ‘Grow Your Dreams’ models was reserved for the Tribe (MB&F owners) and Friends (suppliers) on a first-come, first-served basis, with the remainder released to the public through a raffle in September 2025.
