Academy Award-winning South African actor Charlize Theron, the face of the Breitling Navitimer 36 and 32, co-hosted the recent New York launch of the iconic watch. Linking her journey to stardom with the ‘Navitimer – For the Journey’ campaign, in which members of the Navitimer Squad share their stories of progression to the top of their fields, Theron says hers has always been about being up for any challenge. “I travelled from South Africa to Los Angeles when I was quite young. That physical journey and the journey of being open-minded and ready for new experiences has served me well personally and professionally,” says the actor.
The slender Navitimer 36 and 32 feature radiant mother-of-pearl dials, traceable 18k red gold, and responsible lab-grown diamonds, adding jewellery-like appeal and elegance to the collectable navigational watch created initially as a tool for pilots.
The Navitimer 36 is powered by the COSC-certified Breitling Caliber 17, ensuring three-hand time and automatic winding. The 36mm watch features the familiar beaded bezel and iconic circular slide rule (used by pilots as an analogue calculator) with metallic dial colours (mint green, silver, and anthracite) and baton indexes or a white mother-of-pearl dial set with round-cut “better diamonds”.
Part of Breitling’s mission to do better, these diamonds are lab-grown and traceable to accredited producers who have achieved the SCS-007 Sustainability Rated Diamonds Standard. Similarly, the full-gold version and gold bezel on the duo-tone are crafted in “better gold,” which is traceable to artisanal and small-scale mines that meet the Swiss Better Gold Association’s social and environmental impact criteria. All watches in the line that feature better gold, better diamonds, or both, carry the Origins label, a marker of their precious materials’ product integrity.
The simplified 32mm mother-of-pearl dial excludes the slide rule and is presented in powdery pink or light blue – a first for Breitling – and classic white. This version is powered by the Breitling Caliber 77, an exact SuperQuartz™ movement that is COSC-certified. It is water resistant to 50m.
