Shirley Van Wyk on Mindful Luxury

Shirley van Wyk, Managing Director of Terre Paisible Medical Rejuvenation & Spa, shares her insights on leadership, luxury, and the small practices that elevate life, work, and well-being.

As Managing Director of Terre Paisible Medical Rejuvenation & Spa, Shirley van Wyk is committed to the practice of physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual refinement. For her, growth isn’t always dramatic; it’s often the quiet, daily act of choosing elevation over stagnation. She’ll be on the inspiring panellists speaking at the 2025 Vastly Sage Uplifting Brunch.

YLA: Who or what do you find most uplifting?

Shirley: I’m most uplifted by environments that feel deeply grounded in nature and purpose. When I’m surrounded by beauty — whether it’s the stillness of the mountains in Franschhoek, the texture of a piece of art, or a moment of shared creativity — it reconnects me to something essential.

YLA: What’s an important lesson you’ve learnt in the past year?

Shirley: That restoration is not a luxury — it’s a strategic advantage. This year reminded me that when we create space to rest, reflect, and nourish ourselves, we return more expansive, more capable, and creative. I’ve also deepened my appreciation for meaningful relationships. Those rooted in authenticity, collaboration, patience, and shared growth are truly regenerative.

YLA: How have you transformed over the course of your career?

Shirley: Earlier in my career, I was driven to constantly succeed. Now, I create for impact, for beauty, and for the possibility of helping someone feel more alive in their own body.

YLA: How have you managed to move forward with confidence even when you feel doubt or uncertainty?

Shirley: I return to intention — and then support that intention with knowledge. If the purpose is aligned — to heal, elevate, create, or contribute meaningfully — I know I’m on the right path. Confidence doesn’t come from knowing everything; it comes from trusting the direction and equipping yourself well for the journey.

YLA: What’s your current favourite luxury or indulgence?

Shirley: I find luxury in moments where everything aligns effortlessly: a meaningful conversation, a breathtaking landscape, the way light moves across a room. Luxury, to me, is depth and presence: the ability to savour life rather than rush through it.

The 6th annual Vastly Sage Uplifting Brunch takes place on 22 November 2025. Tickets for 2025 are however sold out. To secure attendance for next year, purchase your 2026 tickets and book out the date in your calendar!
