Africa is a continent rich with artistic talent—From bold contemporary pieces to intricate traditional tapestries, African artists tell stories that resonate far beyond their origins. Yet, while local creativity thrives, bridging the gap between African artistry and international audiences remains a challenge.
“As a brand, we are committed to creating platforms for local talent to shine on the international stage,” says Peta Dixon, head of Sponsorships at Investec, a leading international bank and wealth manager. “We believe in not only showcasing African talent, but also connecting it to the world. Art is a universal language—borderless, timeless, and impactful. Our aim with the sponsorship of the Investec Cape Town Art Fair is to support a platform that ensures creativity is nurtured on our continent, to reach the world stage it deserves.”
The Investec Cape Town Art Fair does exactly this – creating opportunities for African artists to gain visibility, for international audiences to appreciate our talent, and for meaningful conversations about the value of art to unfold. The City of Cape Town in South Africa, also benefits from the opportunity to welcome both world-class talent and worldwide attention during this highly anticipated event on the international art calendar.
“At our core, we champion local artists, providing them with the platform, exposure, and recognition needed to thrive beyond borders. By fostering connections between local talent and international collectors and galleries, we are not just supporting artists; we are shaping a legacy. Because art is not confined by geography—it leaves an impression, tells a story, and sparks dialogue,” adds Dixon.
Investec believes that art has a value beyond wealth. The firm’s investment in artists extends beyond the Fair – with Investec recently partnering with Boemo Diale, winner of last year’s Tomorrows/Today prize. Boemo’s creations now take centre stage in Investec’s exclusive Reserved Store, an internal service that support’s the business’ high-touch approach to building meaningful relationships with clients and partners, through sourcing and supplying iconic and Out of the Ordinary client gifting and branded merchandise. Here, Boemo’s designs are showcased alongside other leading local talents, including renowned fashion designer Tshepo Mohlala and the exquisite craftsmanship of Ardmore Ceramics, as well as international collaborators including Paul Smith.
To further support emerging local talent, this year sees the launch of the inaugural Investec Emerging Artist award. “As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting local talent on an international stage, we’re thrilled to launch this new award at the twelfth edition of the Investec Cape Town Art Fair,” says Dixon.
The winner of this award must be a South African, and must not be attached to an institution, museum or collection.
“We hope the financial support and exposure gained through this award will be the springboard an emerging local artist needs, to turn their talent into a viable career.”
