Givenchy Gentleman Society is not a place, but rather a state of mind - and the new intense member is fearless and unshakeable

When Givenchy Gentleman Original was created in 1975 by Hubert Givenchy, the leathery aromatic fragrance was a clear statement of masculinity and was soon well established as a powerful and timeless fragrance. Over the years, the additions to the Gentleman range of fragrances have continued to embody the elegance and timeless refinement of the brand. 

Eau de Parfum Boisée and Réserve Privée are the cornerstones of the range and unique in their flower-wood signatures. Gentleman Eau de Parfum Boisée brings together the unexpected contrast of powdery noble iris with the passionate strength of gourmand wood for a warm and sensual trail. Iris is also key to Gentleman Réserve Privée, but here the inclusion of ambery wood and a natural whiskey absolute sourced from a Scottish distillery, give it an intense, sophisticated finish. 

This olfactory signature – the duality of a flower-wood pairing – appeared again last year when Givenchy’s Gentleman Society launched. The compelling mix of woody and vanilla notes redefined the gentleman, and now they have been reinvented again by master perfumer Karine Dubreuil. Welcome to the ‘big brother’: Gentleman Society Eau de Parfum Extrême. 

The signature heart accord of the original Gentleman Society EDP (narcissus absolute, iris concrete and a quartet of vetivers) remains, but the inclusion of Ethiopian coffee absolute topped with clary sage, nutmeg and peppermint notes give the scent a frosty iced coffee punch, while organic cedar from the Himalayas, sandalwood from Australia and the toasty Indonesian patchouli essence push the scent to another level. 

While there may be different ways to be a gentleman, members of Givenchy’s Gentleman Society all have one thing in common: they represent a multi-faceted masculinity that combines elegance, respect, openness and caring towards others, with the desire to have a positive impact on the world. They are game changers and thrill-seekers that are able to reinvent the rules while staying loyal to their commitments and values. “It’s for those who want to live intensely, free from hesitation or constraints,” says the brand. 

Gentleman Society Eau de Parfum Extrême is easily recognisable on shelf, having kept the strong, sleek lines and black lacquering of the original EDP. The 4G logo at its centre, however – the signature on all the Givenchy House designs – takes on a darker gunmetal hue in the EDP Extrême, while the case is framed with chrome accents. 

Gentleman Society Eau de Parfum Extreme 100ml, R2 930 and Gentleman Society Eau de Parfum Extreme 60ml R2 165 are available at leading beauty retail outlets nationwide.
