The iconic shade is trending again, offering a universally flattering, sheer finish perfect for summer. Here’s why it’s the must-have beauty staple for embracing nostalgic glamour.
The 90s have made an official comeback. While most people don Addidas Sambas, oversized sweaters, and loose-fitting jeans, the beauty trends have cottoned on too. From lipliners to plum-shade lipsticks and lip gloss, the nostalgia returns.
Clinique’s Black Honey lipstick is making a resurgence, and it’s perfectly timed to jump on the 90s beauty trend. Think Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford… when being a supermodel meant being a ‘super’ model. While technically it first launched in 1971 (known then as Honey Pot), it was in 1989 that Black Honey lipstick debuted in the sleek tube we know now.
Everyone in the know is running to stores to buy Black Honey or a version of it. The trend has gone viral with significant beauty influencers on social media, many dubbing it as the lipstick anyone can wear due to its ability to work with most skin tones. The formula contains a blend of blue, red and yellow pigments which is what makes it flattering for every lip colour. “It’s magical,” says Janet Pardo, Senior Vice President Product Development at Clinique. “It makes your teeth look whiter, your lips look gorgeous, and it’s very forgiving – you don’t even need a mirror when you put it on. It’s functional, yet so desirable.”
For the few who might feel the lipstick is too dark, there is a softer, lighter version called Pink Honey.
