Some people fall into floristry. Grant Donson grew up in it. From the age of 14 in Plettenberg Bay, training under Cape Town’s floral masters, to Johannesburg – where he started selling arrangements to time-starved executives outside a gym – his path has been one of steady determination.
The real turning point came in 2017, when he registered his own business and later completed the WITS Business School Management Essentials course. That, he says, changed everything: a sharper strategy, keener financial instincts, and a clearer creative direction.
Then, a little over two years ago, centre management at The Zone @ Rosebank offered Grant the opportunity to open Flowers by Grant Donson. The move marked a new chapter for the florist, giving him a permanent space to showcase his floral artistry.
Today, his boutique is a sanctuary of modern elegance, where shoppers pause mid-stride to admire couture creations, premium roses, and seasonal blooms that feel more like art than arrangements. His client list has grown tenfold, spanning corporate heavyweights, event planners, and discerning regulars who return for the freshness as much as the flair.
“I have never looked back,” Grant says. “It is food for my soul – and my flamboyant floral creations.”
With Old Mutual Property backing his next chapter, this is one florist whose bloom is only just beginning. And if his journey so far is anything to go by, the best arrangements are still to come.
