Curated by Cocoon Lifestyle, the elegant oasis was a must-visit corner of the fair. Clients, friends and guests flocked to the area where bubbly and a delicious array of eats were readily available for the opening evening. Over the course of the opening night, visitors to the fair wandered around the various exhibition spaces and then invariably came to the YLA oasis to mingle with other VIP guests, collectors, curators and art enthusiasts.
Now with an exciting hybrid approach where curatorial and commercial interventions meet, the fair was divided into seven specialised sections: gallery HUB, gallery LAB, MAX, GIF, ETC, AUX, and ORG sections. These came together in the form of 41 exhibitors, 14 countries, and more than 100 artists represented. Sections like gallery HUB + MAX, fulfilled the objective to be a quality focused fair by including internationally renowned galleries that represent institutionally recognised artists.
New sections, such as the inaugural GIF section, featured works by photographic stalwarts Alf Khumalo, Ernest Cole, and Peter Magubane. GIF also featured contemporary reflections of African liberation through inputs from Stevenson, Everard Read, First Floor Gallery Harare X Modzi Arts, Goodman Gallery, Eclectica Contemporary, Luvuyo Equiano Nyawose, and Moyo Oyelolla.
One of the highlights of the fair offerings was the BKhz group exhibition. Selected to be the September cover star of YourLuxury Africa magazine, co-founder Banele Khoza is having a stellar 2024. FNB Art Joburg marked one of multiple milestones for the gallerist, curator, and artist, who has four upcoming presentations.
At FNB Art Joburg, the impressive BKhz group show, featured long-term collaborators including Zandile Tshabalala, Talia Ramkilawan, WonderBuhle, Lukhanyo Mdingi, and AthiPatra Ruga, and first-time collaborators Lebohang Kganye and Terence Maluleke.
